As Scouts we wear uniforms for ceremonial occasions, troop nights and trips out. We were the uniform in the following ways:

  • Full Uniform
  • Relaxed Uniform
  • Scarf
  • Scruffs

These are described in more detail below:

Full Uniform: Scout shirt (washed, ironed & tucked in), Scarf (washed & ironed), Scout Trousers (washed & Ironed), Scout belt, black shoes (polished) not trainers.

Relaxed Uniform: Scout Shirt (can be worn untucked), Scarf, black shoes/trainers and black/navy blue trousers. At inspection additional points will be awarded for both tidyness and the wearing of Scout Trousers, Scout Belt, etc. Additionally in the Summer term the Scouts may wear shorts however only shorts made from Scout Trousers (typically parents use old trousers and convert them into shorts).

Scarf: Scarf only with the Scouts choice of appropriate, comfortable clothes. This is usually when we are on a dayout eg a hike, where a uniform is not appropriate. Offensive and/or tatty clothes are not acceptable.

Scruffs: Scouts own clothes that you do not mind getting dirty, etc.

The following describes how uniforms are worn for different occasions:

  • Ceremonial occasions - Full Uniform.
  • Scout Evenings - Relaxed Uniform (with scruff t-shirts worn underneath for games/activites)
  • Hikes, activity days - Scarf (unless told otherwise)
  • Days out, eg visiting London - Relaxed Uniform
  • Travel to camps - Relaxed Uniform

Camp Scarfs

One of the things that we do differently in the Scouts to the other sections is that those that go to summer camp are presented with a 'camp scarf', which is a different colour to the Group scarf and a different colour every year. Scouts wear this additional scarf wrapped into their main scarf for the year following the camp the scarf was presented to them for. At the next summer camp new 'camp' scarf are presented. Once a new camp scarf has been presented previous camp scarfs are removed, even if the Scout didn't go to the subsequent camp.
