Welcome back after the summer break. We welcome one or two new Cubs to the Pack and hope they enjoy the next couple of years with us. At the end of this term we also say goodbye to Thomas and Aaron, who, by December, will be the age where they are ready to go on to Scouts. This term we will be working on two badges, “My Faith” and “Promise Challenge”. As you may have guessed from the title, it looks at religion and churches etc. Within the program I hope to include a visit to St Johns, which is the church that sponsors 5th Billericay Cub Scout Group. More detail to follow once a date is confirmed. In addition to this, and in order to receive their badge, the Cubs will need to attend a church service. For those of you who attend church regularly this isn’t going to be a problem but for others this may cause a problem. I am trying to re-introduce Parade Services at St Johns, and if successful, there is an expectation that Cubs attend. Again, more detail to follow once known. For those of you who know me you won’t be surprised to read that there will be homework this term. Tonight they will be issued their task which covers a number of weeks. Could you please support them in completion of this homework. Finally, just a reminder that it’s new term and therefore subs are due. The list of activities are as follows. Date | Activity | 14 September | Discuss program – Issue homework | 21 September | “My Faith” Badge (Week 1) | 28 September | “My Faith” Badge (Week 2) | 5 October | Promise Challenge” | 12 October | “Promise Challenge” | 19 October | End of half term activity | 26 October | Half Term | 2 November | No session due to work activity | 9 November | Hot Dogs and sparklers | 16 November | Return and discuss homework | 23 November | Create Christmas Surprise | 30 November | Continue Christmas Surprise | 7 December | Finish Christmas Surprise | 14 December | End of term activity |
It should be said that they may change at short notice, and if there are any special requirements I will let you know separately. If you have any concerns re the above activities please come and see me at the beginning or at the end of a Tuesday session.
