Dear Friends of Genesis Scouts,

We are aware that there are a huge number of people on the fringe of our community who have skills or experience that could really benefit our young people. It could be parents, grandparents, neighbours, aunts, uncles – just about anybody really.

We also know that the thought of “volunteering” for something can be a daunting prospect, before you know it you are the Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary of something you only made a vague offer of help to...lets face it – we’ve all been there.

We would like to conduct a skills audit and compile a database of the skills and experience we have on the fringe of our group. It could be something you do as a job, or it could be a hobby that you enjoy. Our aim is then to look at our activity programme and identify whether there is a person who has skills or experience relevant to that particular part of the Scout Programme.

There would be absolutely no commitment on your part to do anything – but when planning our activity programme, one of the Leaders could contact you for advice. If, at that stage, you feel you would like to give some of your time, then we would be delighted to have your input in whatever format feels right for you. You might just want to point out some things we haven’t considered, you may be able to come down and help run the sessions that relate to your area of expertise – either way – the amount of time you donate is entirely up to you.

In case you are struggling to think of things that might help us – one recent example was the Mechanics badge – one of our parents brought down his kit car – beautifully simple engineering that perfectly demonstrated basic mechanical knowledge and allowed a number of our Scouts to achieve their Mechanics badge.

Please note that any information provided will be treated confidentially and with the utmost respect – we would never share any information with anyone outside of Genesis (unless prior agreement was obtained). You will have the right to remove your information from the database at any time, without question, and of course, when your child leaves Genesis, you will have the option to remain on our database of people, if you feel that this is something you would like to do.
